New Beginners Acrylic Painting Class

In our Beginners Acrylic Painting class you will learn the basics of using acrylics including what brushes to use, how to mix and apply paint and how to layer paint. Your tutor, Jaclyn Stuart, will walk you through step by step small painting studies using landscape as our inspiration. You will create a forest scene with reflection in water, a crashing wave and a lovely snow scene with small cottage.

Lesson 1: Introduction to acrylics

During this class Jaclyn, your tutor, will explain materials and how they work, how to store and clean materials. You will start by drawing up the forest scene and start a step by step demonstration on building up an acrylic painting.

Lesson 2: Crashing wave

In this lesson Jaclyn shall demonstrate step by step how to build up tone to create a crashing wave.

Lesson 3: Snow scene

In this lesson you will build up a snow scene using layering and splatter effect with the expert tuition of Jaclyn.

What you’ll need:

Our Tutors suggest that you have paper, a basic acrylic paint set with brushes and something to lean on (table/board/easel) to join this Beginners Acrylics Painting class. You can also just watch and take notes to inspire you later, the choice is yours.

Your Tutor

Jaclyn Stuart is an artist who works in St Andrews Scotland. She graduated from Grays School of Art with a BA Hons in Fine Art in 2000. She has taught art in many establishments including lecturing in Further Education. She now runs her own teaching business in St Andrews along with making and selling her own artwork. She works in watercolour, acrylics, oils and inks.

Our ‘live’ classes will take place via Zoom. We’d recommend using a laptop or desktop if possible to make it easier for you to take part. Upon booking your class, you will receive an email confirmation with full details of how to join and your link to the zoom class.
