Begin your Acrylic painting journey from the comfort of your home
In this course, you will learn everything needed to get you started in painting with acrylics. You will learn the traditional layering technique of using an underpainting with colour glazing and you will also learn how to paint in a more expressive “alla prima” way.
Course Outline
Week 1: Explaining brushes, paint application, colour theory and understanding layering. Creating a tonal underpainting in the traditional style.
Week 2. Creating colour layer on top of underpainting
Week 3. Painting a snow scene ” alla prima”
Week 4. Painting wheat fields using a fan brush
Week 5. Painting a crashing wave
Week 6. Painting reflections in water.
What you’ll learn:
- Understand the techniques and basics of acrylic painting
- The confidence to explore new methods and materials with acrylics
- Tips on how to approach different scenes and what can be used to enhance your acrylic painting.
What you’ll need:
- Set of acrylic paints including the following colours
- Set of basic acrylic brushes
- old toothbrush
- Canvas board 5 x7 inches, minimum of 6.
- Palette
- Rags
- Drawing pencil
- Sharpener
- Water jars
Your Tutor
Jaclyn Stuart is an artist who works in St Andrews Scotland. She graduated from Grays School of Art with a BA Hons in Fine Art in 2000. She has taught art in many establishments including lecturing in Further Education. She now runs her own teaching business in St Andrews along with making and selling her own artwork. She works in watercolour, acrylics, oils and inks.
