Duration: 1 hour
Price: £75.00
6 week course
Ages and Stages – drawing the Figure throughout Life
This mixed media drawing course will explore drawing the figure throughout life, noting where it changes and/or stays the same at different ages and stages. No experience in drawing the figure is necessary as everyone will be encouraged to work at their own level within a relaxed and friendly environment.
Course Outline
Week 1 – Our first week will be an introduction to the course and materials, followed by a consideration of how babies and small children can be depicted in art.
Week 2 – Toddlers and preschool kids can be funny and fun, as well as naughty and tiring! This week will look at how art history has treated them and explore how we might draw them.
Week 3 – Our third session will focus on older children and young teenagers. Particularly focusing on how their faces change during this phase.
Week 4 – Young adults. Is this the best age? This week will look at how older teenagers and young adults are often depicted and have a go at drawing some ourselves.
Week 5 – Week 5 will consider the middle years. How is the body changing? Does our life experience start to show in the face and expression?
Week 6 – Old age. Many artists have tackled this rich and expressive life stage and we will consider the changes that happen at this time of life and reflect on the previous week’s work.
Sophie will provide reference photos to work from during class, but participants are
welcome to bring their own photos to practice on.
